Gone but Not Forgotten by Linda Racaniello

Many heroes fall during battle
this fight for freedom often costs
these men and women we send to foreign shores
often it these lives that are lost

but they will not be forgotten

we honour those souls that slip away

and know that they've become angels

In heaven, on this day

The memory of them lives on

as we sleep we see their face

the dreams seem so very real

we often imagine their warm embrace

God has given them free rein

to whisper gently to the trees

to glide effortlessly among the clouds

and dry your tears with a breeze

So as long as we are alive

we will hold them in our hearts

and as long as we can breathe

our heroes will never be apart

So as we bury you with honour

we will grieve, then heal & pray

and even though we'll miss you

we'll be reunited in heaven one day

Original Analysis of the Poem

The poem is related to the fallen soldiers who sacrificed their lives for their country. However, some people are slowly forgetting about the sacrifices that they made for their country. From the poem, we can see that the author is telling us to appreciate those who died for our country especially these soldiers who dedicated their lives to save their nation from unwanted attacks and threats. These soldiers should always be in our memories as we live on because without them we will not be able to live in our country safe and soundly.
